Teacher Blogs
These are just a few examples of teacher's blogs that have extremely useful information. These teachers have put up many different lesson plans, activities, and other material that other teachers can use in their own classrooms.
Adventures of an Art Teacher: Katie Morris, Kansas
This teacher has many different examples of activities that she is doing in her own classroom. She gives her feedback on things that worked and things that did not work. My favorite activity that I saw on her blog was her classes participation in Dot Day. International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009. http://www.thedotclub.org/dotday/get-started. She had her students create different pictures and paintings that celebrated the Dot Day activities. She also had three murals that would be put up in their school that gave a different take of the Dot Day activities.
Art Matters: Mrs. Fritz, Tennessee
This teacher also gives many different examples and step-by-step processes for the art work that her and her students create. One of my favorite activities that she did with her class was the "Box Wall Mural". It was an activity that went with the Fall Festival in their hometown. It costs $5 per box, so it was necessary for her to get a donor in order for their school to be able to participate in the activity. This helped the students feel a part of their community and created a tie to something bigger that was helping around them. She painted the initial design and then broke the boxes apart for the kids to paint the colors. This is an activity that I would love to see done in an Elementary school in the area and really helps the students work together to create a bigger picture.
Art with Mr. E: Tennessee
This teacher really has a blog that creates a personal relationship with the teacher. He also participated in the "Box Wall Mural" activity in their hometown. I really like how he emphasizes artists and teaches his students about who they are studying and how that artist impacted the world in which they lived. I really enjoyed his work with teaching Eric Carle. He used his diversity in his books to create art work that was also diverse in nature.
Online Art Games: Theressa Mcgee
This is a simple website that this woman created in order for children to be able to play art games online. She created a space where she has put all of her favorite art games that are also educational for students.
For the Love of Art: Kristin Thomas
This teacher is a fifth year elementary art and special education teacher. She has a very organized blog that is easy to explore and gives great directions for the projects that she is doing with her class. One of my favorite activities that she did was the Liberty Lady. That learned about Peter Max and watched a video on the history of the Statue of Liberty. They then drew portraits of the Statues of Liberty in Pencil and outlined it in Sharpie. They colored the pictures using chalk pastels to create their own version of the Statue of Liberty.
